Waiting till the Party's crowded

It is very easy to get your voice heard in a room that is not crowded, but when the room is crowded and noisy, you can yell at the top of your voice and still not be heard.

How long after the first commercial website was launched did it take for the web to reach the tipping point? How long after blogging began, did it take for the blogosphere to reach the tipping point? And MORE importantly, why is it that business owners fail to learn from past mistakes?

Business owners who waited a long while to launch their website found that they had to work a lot harder or spend a lot more money to get good search engine ranking. Blog writers who began after Rathergate have found it harder to get blogrolled and syndicated.

What is the point of this article?

RSS as a communication and sales medium outside of the Blogosphere.

As an example, let me use Real Estate Listing Agents.

Suppose a Real Estate Agent is able to list an average of 100 homes per year. Suppose she (or he) has a working relationship with a large number of buying prospects or would like more buying prospects.

What if every time the agent listed a new house, within five minutes many of his prospects were notified and many search engines were also notified? And what if no one screamed "SPAM!"

One of the beautiful things about RSS, is that no one receives a Webfeed unless she (or he) wants to receive the feed and he (or she) can turn the webfeed off without notifying the sender. This means that the user does not receive unwanted communications. No Spam!

RSS is a great new medium for communicating with prospects. More importantly, the RSS "party" is not nearly as crowded as it is going to be when Microsoft releases its next Windows OS. Microsoft has announced that in 2006 when its new Windows operating system is released that it will have RSS aggregation built into either the operating system or else into IE or OE.

Apple already has RSS built into its Safari browser and there are a number of other aggregators available for free.

Many people today will tell you that you should not use RSS because only a small percentage of web users are currently using it. But I say, come to the Party before it gets crowded. You can still use your other mediums of communication, just add this one to the mix.

Besides this, playing in the same sandbox in which everyone else is playing is a good way to obstruct your potential.
